Gulf Islands National Seashore combines white-sand beaches, coastal habitats and historic sites across separate areas of Florida and Mississippi. Near Perdido Key, start with the Perdido Key Area along Johnson Beach Road. Rosamond Johnson Beach offers Gulf access, picnic pavilions and restrooms. A boardwalk nature trail and multi-use path provide ways to explore beyond the shoreline.
Choose your destination before setting out. Johnson Beach is an option for beach time and a picnic, while Fort Pickens, on Pensacola Beach, combines a historic fort with coastal scenery and nearby beach access. These are separate park areas with different routes, facilities and restrictions.
Check the National Park Service's current alerts and conditions, along with area hours and entrance fees, before your trip. Parking at Perdido Key is limited to designated spaces, and the area can reach capacity. Bring drinking water and sun protection, use marked beach crossovers and check beach flags and weather before entering the water. Roads and facilities may be affected by severe weather.
